Vandals won't spoil his holiday spirit

While I can totally appreciate how the Michels family must have felt as described in the Dec. 20 article, I must implore them to hang in there. I personally have experienced the same type of thing at my house for the past four Christmas seasons, and my “little vandals” didn't disappoint this year. I have had to splice my light strands together after they were cut in several spots, causing hours of frustrating tracing to find the cuts and repair them. Some years, they hit me more than once, and I found myself questioning, just as the Michels family did, “What's the matter with youth today? Have they no respect?”

As I spliced them back together this year, I was reminded of the Christmas cartoon “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” that I used to watch as a child. I wasn't going to let these “little Grinches” steal my Christmas joy. I guess what keeps me going is the fact that whoever is responsible obviously lives nearby and continues to see my lights shining brightly the very next night. Perhaps I can outlast them where patience is concerned; either way, they will not ruin my Christmas spirit.

Besides, in the cartoon, did the Whos in Whoville give up when the Grinch took their tree and presents? I think not! Don't let the “Grinch” steal your Christmas!
