Isn't compromise what we want?

I read the Daily Herald's account of the new comprehensive tax bill Dec. 17. I realize many people have legitimate concerns about this legislation, but I choose to look on the positive side.

For one day our leaders in Washington acted as a cooperative group through the art of compromise. The Democrats were able to get tax and other relief for the middle class, and the Republicans were able to get something for their people — estate and other tax relief for wealthy Americans. Each side was able to get something for the respective group they represent.

Isn't this the way government is supposed to function?
