Firework explodes inside cab at O'Hare
A cabbie in the suburban cab lot at O'Hare International Airport was severely injured when she blew up a firework inside her car this afternoon.
Police said the woman picked up the firework and may have thought it was “something other than it was,” and lit it in her cab at 2:30 p.m.
The explosion severely injured her hand, and she was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, said Chicago police spokesman Darryl Baety.
Bomb and arson units are continuing their investigation of the explosion, but no further explosives were found by dogs at the scene, Baety said.
No passengers were inside the cab when the firework went off.
