No injuries in Naperville house fire

A fire caused more than $250,000 damage Wednesday morning to a two-story house in Naperville, authorities said.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported in the blaze.

Two children noticed smoke coming from the house on the 600 block of Balmoral Circle around 10:40 a.m. and reported it to a neighbor who called authorities, Acting Deputy Fire Chief Robert Bush said.

Firefighters arrived within five minutes of receiving the call to find smoke coming from a first-floor window, authorities said. Firefighters forced their way into the house and found flames in the living room and basement.

The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes. Officials say they are focusing their investigation on what triggered the blaze on a pinched electrical cord on a power strip used for the home's computer.

Bush said the family has made arrangements for the night; the house was deemed uninhabitable.
