Kane County under freezing fog advisory
The National Weather Service has issued a freezing fog advisory for north central and east Illinois, including Kane County.
The advisory, which remains in effect until 9 a.m., means cold air and moisture have combined to produce dense fog in those areas, officials said.
The droplets of water in the fog are also freezing when it hits the pavement, causing slick conditions and black ice, officials warn.
Lighter fog is visible in other counties like Lake, Cook, DuPage and McHenry counties, but the dense fog advisory is not in place there. Motorists, however, are still warned to slow down due to icy conditions.
