Antioch man accused of threatening girlfriend
An 18-year-old Antioch man on parole has been arrested for chasing an ex-girlfriend, then making more than 30 threatening phone calls to her, police said Wednesday.
Cody L. Dema, of the 25000 block of First Street, is held in Lake County jail without bond after being arrested Dec. 15.
He is awaiting a Jan. 12 parole hearing that will determine if he must return to jail and complete the remainder of a 24-month sentence he received in 2009 for mob action and aggravated battery, Antioch Police Chief Craig Somerville said.
Somerville said Dema's latest run-in with police was Dec. 14 after he threatened to shoot an ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend while following a car they were riding in.
During an altercation, Dema confronted the couple and shouted threats that he was going to “get” them, Somerville said.
Later, as the couple hid out in an apartment building, Dema called the victim's cell phone 30 times and stated he was going to get a gun and shoot them both.
Dema, an admitted gang member, has been charged with disorderly conduct, which could revoke his parole, Somerville said.
“The Antioch Police Department takes a strong stand against gang activity and violent acts in general,” he said. “These crimes will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.”
