A win for free market
Recently, Tri-Com Central Dispatch announced that it was rejecting all bids related to its plans to develop an alarm monitoring business at Tri-Com. Tri-Com and its controlling cities — Geneva, Batavia, and St. Charles — should be applauded for this decision.
Whether or not you care about fire alarm monitoring, Tri-Com's decision supports a competitive, free-market in which the consumer gets the best prices, service and offerings. For years, the community has had free choice when it comes to alarm monitoring, and it appears that will continue.
I want to thank the council members and members of the Tri-Com board for seriously considering the issues that were raised on behalf of our industry and clients.
Alarm technology is changing quickly, requiring major investments in equipment and training to provide the best possible protection for our community. The private sector stands ready to make those investments in the latest technology, help maintain alarm systems, and ensure that alarm calls are handled professionally and quickly.
Our industry wants to continue to work with city governments, police and fire departments, 911 dispatch centers and local businesses to help keep our community safe.
