Arts agenda: Palatine chorus auditions

• The Palatine Children's Chorus has auditions on Thursday, Jan. 6, and on Wednesday, Jan. 12, for children from the Northwest suburbs who will be at least 8 years old by Monday, Jan. 10. After a short audition, singers can be placed in either the Treble Choir (Wednesday rehearsals) or the Intermezzo Choir (Monday rehearsals) based on age and musical experience. • Fox Valley Rep Performing Arts Academy (formerly Noble Fool Theatricals Performing Arts Academy) seeks young actors between the ages of 6 to 19 to audition for its winter productions. Auditions for “Snow White” are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15. Auditions for the teen comedy “The Talent Show” are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, and noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15. • The Lyric Opera of Chicago has chorus auditions for classically trained singers for the 2011-12 season. Preliminary auditions are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, Jan. 22 and 29; 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9; 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11; 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15; and 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 4. Out-of-town singers can audition from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5. Auditions are by invitation only. • The Rockford Writers' Guild welcomes entries for the seventh annual Ides of March Poetry & Prose Contest. Eclectic poetry up to 50 lines or prose up to 1,300 words should express fresh insights into the human condition (sexist, pornographic or supremacist content will not be considered). The deadline to enter is March 15. The entry fee is $5 for up to three poems entered and/or $5 for each single prose entry. All proceeds from the entry fee will be distributed among the winners. • The Curt Teich Postcard Archives at the Lake County Discovery Museum seeks entries for its ninth biennial Postcard Art Competition and Exhibition.
