No candidates yet for two-year Wheeling board seat
There are no candidates vying for the unexpired two-year term on the Wheeling village board in April.
Resident Greg Stavros filed nominating petitions for the seat, but village officials say he was taken off the ballot for not having enough signatures.
While the deadline to file to be on the April 5 consolidated election ballot has passed, a candidate has until the end of day Thursday, Dec. 23, to file as a write-in candidate for that unexpired two-year term, or any of the other seats up for election.
Four candidates are vying for three four-year term seats on the Wheeling board.
Incumbent Wheeling village trustees Ray Lang, David Vogel and Robert Heer, and challenger Mary Papantos are vying for the trustee seats.
Lang and Vogel were appointed to the village board by Mayor Judy Abruscato in May 2009 to fill the vacancies created after elected trustee Stuart Shapiro stepped down before taking office, and Abruscato's own unexpired two-year term, respectively.
Since Lang was only appointed for two years until the next consolidated election, Shapiro's unexpired two-year term is the one up for election.
