Fire damages part of Addison home

A fire destroyed the upstairs of a house in Addison Monday night, although its occupants escaped without any injuries.

The fire occurred at 7:20 p.m. on the 3N700 block of Wood Dale Road, Addison Fire Protection District Chief James Burke said. It took firefighters until 2 a.m. to put out the attic fire, which was likely started by space heaters.

Burke said he could not estimate the damage. He said the upstairs was gutted, though, and there was likely substantial water damage on the lower level.

Fire crews from Bensenville, Bloomingdale, Elmhurst and Wood Dale assisted in battling the blaze.
