Credit card processor plans S. Ind. expansion

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — A credit and debit card processor has announced plans to expand its operations in southern Indiana and hire up to 140 more workers by next summer.

Heartland Payment Systems said Tuesday it will spend more than $6.2 million to expand its Jeffersonville service center, where it now has some 650 workers. Princeton, N.J.-based Heartland says it will be hiring customer service and management personnel early next year as construction and renovations begin.

Heartland president Bob Baldwin says the Jeffersonville center was a natural site for the company to consolidate processing operations from an acquisition it made in 2008.
