Conseco name staying on Indianapolis arena

INDIANAPOLIS — Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis will be keeping its name even though the insurance company changed its name months ago.

When the Carmel-based company announced in March its new name of CNO Financial Group, it said executives had started talks with the Indiana Pacers about renaming the arena.

CNO spokesman Tony Zehnder tells the Indianapolis Business Journal that there are now no plans for a fieldhouse name change. Zehnder says it would cost "serious money" for new fieldhouse signs and that the company also considered the importance of continuity for the arena's name.

The company is in the 12th year of a $40 million, 20-year naming-rights deal.

The decision surprises the CEO of an Indianapolis marketing firm. Jim Walton of Brand Acceleration says CNO gains no benefit from the Conseco name.
