Senate confirms federal judge for Illinois
CHICAGO — The U.S. Senate has unanimously voted to confirm Chicago federal prosecutor Edmond Chang for a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
The Chicago Tribune reports that Sunday's vote paves the way for Chang to become the first Asian-American federal judge in Illinois and at 40-years-old the youngest federal trial court judge in the United States.
Chang earned his law degree from Northwestern University in 1994. Chang currently serves as chief of appeal for the criminal division in the Northern District. He tells the tribune he is "humbled" and looking forward to serving the public.
