Paper should check facts on Dist. 46

As an American, I value the freedoms we have. With freedom however comes responsibility. When I exercise my freedom of speech, I try my best make sure that I am responsible by knowing as many facts as possible, talking with people, getting differing points of view and truly think about what I want to say. Unfortunately, the editorial and writing staff of The Daily Herald does not share the same sense of responsibility.

The editorial printed Dec. 15 concerning School District 46 exhibited little responsibility. The editorial-writing staff failed to get all the facts, or talk with people about the decisions that were made about the spending of federal funds. If they had they would have written a different editorial. Neglected or ignored are the facts about the federally mandated procedures for the distribution of the funds, or that other districts got the same funding and spent it in much the same way. It seems that you also missed the fact that using the funding a different way, to hire staff that could not be sustained, would have financial implications in the future.

The editorial staff may have still disagreed with the decision made at the district, and that is fine, if at least an informed opinion, helpful to the readers rather than partially informed inflammatory statements were printed.

This is not the first time that I have witnessed this behavior from The Daily Herald. This publication often prints articles that are filled with misquotes, inadequate research, and slanted to be inflammatory. As such, I cannot look to this publication to give me an accurate accounting of issues or truly informed opinions.

Maybe this paper should be called The Daily Hearst. That's not a compliment.
