More candidates join race for Des Plaines council

Challengers have come forward in the race to represent Des Plaines' 2nd and 4th wards.

Steve Antonoff filed nominating petitions this week seeking the 2nd Ward seat currently held by Alderman John Robinson. Initially appointed to the seat after former alderman Marty Moylan was elected mayor in 2009, Robinson is now running for a full four-year term.

In the 4th Ward, Mark Pytlewicz joins a field of candidates that now includes onetime alderman Dick Sayad, who unsuccessfully ran for mayor 2009, and one-term incumbent Alderwoman Jean Higgason.

In other wards, newcomer Richard Hissong is challenging incumbent 6th Ward Alderman Mark Walsten, who also is running for his second term; and Michael “Mike” Charewicz, Austin V. Stanton, Jr. and Pat Mauro are running for the 8th Ward seat left open by the departure of Alderwoman Rosemary Argus.

Argus cannot seek re-election because of city term-limit regulations.

The candidate filing period continues through Monday, Dec. 20.
