Have an outstanding warrant? Elgin says let's make a deal

The Elgin Police Department, in conjunction with the Kane County State's Attorney's Office, is holding a misdemeanor warrant day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Elgin Police Department.

This gives those with outstanding misdemeanor warrants from 2008 through 2010 a chance to have a judge reduce or even remove bond on the warrant.

Elgin is trying to clear up its backlog of outstanding misdemeanor cases so it can focus on new cases, said police spokeswoman Sue Olafson. Officials estimate there are 1,300 misdemeanor warrants from 2008 through 2010.

After meeting with a judge Saturday, defendants will receive a new court date. For details, call (847) 289-2531 if you speak English. Spanish speakers should call (847) 354-3394.
