Car, truck collide in Gurnee

A semitrailer truck collided with a car in Gurnee late Thursday afternoon, but there were no serious injuries, police and fire officials said.

The truck was headed south on Route 41 around 2:45 p.m. when a car on Stearns School Road suddenly pulled out, Lake County sheriff's Sgt. Timothy Jointes said.

The driver of the car was taken to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, where he was treated for a left shoulder scrape, according to Gurnee Fire Battalion Chief John Skillman.

“The car was hit on the passenger side. It was a good thing no one was seated on that side; they would have been seriously injured, probably fatally,” Skillman said.

The truck, which was hauling rolls of paper, went into a ditch. Route 41 had to be closed for about an hour for clean up, Jointes said.

Jointes says that citations are pending and that the car driver will most likely be issued a ticket for failure to yield.
