District 46 bonuses defy taxpayers
I just completed reading the article on the Grayslake School District cash bonus plan so efficiently doled out and approved by Superintendent Ellen Correll. Actually, I had to re-read to be sure.
How nice of Ms. Correll to use our tax money to give the teachers an early holiday gift. Personally, I wonder which planet Ms. Correll is living on? I totally agree that teachers are at core of our country's future and that their jobs are not easy. However, with the recent articles depicting such nice retirement plans for the district, benefits during their employment and in general the security of 10 year, someone needs to stop and look out the windows and see what is going on.
The money surely could have been put to better, more responsible things, such as noted in the article, new teacher salaries, benefits, etc., which as also noted in the article, many districts did.
Ms. Correll, you can be sure this will not be forgotten next time the District is crying for a referendum or your contract is up. We taxpayers, most of whom are unemployed or under employed or retired and living on a fixed budget, are scratching to pay our taxes, let alone house payments, insurance, groceries and such.
At a time when the teachers and administrators are fortunate enough to be employed and should thank God they are, they get bonuses with our money!
By the way, if they need incentive to stay here, let them go looking for a job. That will be incentive enough, nine months of work a year with numerous holidays, the ability to make extra money and retire early. That right there would be incentive enough for me. A poor soul earning over $100,000 per year really doesn't need a bonus. Try making it on $1,376 a month after taxes from IDES; maybe they'll reconsider.
