Workers find drugs, ammo at old jail in S. Ind.
NASHVILLE, Ind. — A southern Indiana sheriff says demolition workers found seized drugs, live ammunition and department paperwork in the rubble as they torn down the county's old jail.
Brown County Sheriff Buck Stogsdill is seeking disciplinary action against a department sergeant who he says was assigned and paid overtime to make sure items were removed from the building.
Stogsdill tells The Republic of Columbus that a Rubbermaid tub holding 20 pounds of marijuana from a 1997 drug case was among what demolition workers found at the former jail in Nashville.
The county merit board on Tuesday gave the sergeant six weeks to respond.
The old jail building was vacant for five years before being demolished in recent weeks.
