St. Charles cops: Elgin man Tasered after he threatened to shoot
An Elgin man Tasered by police after they say he threatened to shoot them was arrested on charges of obstructing a peace officer and being a pedestrian under the influence.
Sandor Rafael Regalado-Romo, 26, of the 200 block of Villa St., was found to be intoxicated and staggering in the middle of the roadway at 1:03 a.m. Saturday on the 1100 block of Fifth Avenue in St. Charles, police spokesman Paul McCurtain said Wednesday.
A vehicle driven by Regalado-Romo's girlfriend had stopped in the middle of the street, and he was standing outside of it. Police say they asked Regalado-Romo for identification, but he repeatedly refused. He took off his jacket, threw it to the ground, and said he would shoot both officers, claiming he had a gun, McCurtain said.
When Regalado-Romo motioned to his back, an officer deployed a Taser on him, McCurtain said.
Upon search, officers found Regalado-Romo had no weapons.
He was unable to post bond, but was released to family members on his own recognizance, McCurtain said.
