Age change for cops nonsensical
The age requirement for nonmilitary applicants to become Chicago police officers was recently raised from 21 to 25. There are many men and women in this country who are just as capable of handling this stressful job between the ages of 21 to 25.
There are just as many mature individuals under the age requirement as there are over it. The wait to be called upon for the academy could be another five years after the age of 25. This will make for an older work force, possibly causing it to be less physically fit. When it comes to a stressful job it should not be statistical age that decides the requirement, but the mentality of the actual people who are ready.
