Mobile museum at Woodland Middle

Woodland Middle School seventh-graders will participate in an on-site field trip starting today and also next month.

The education will come from a mobile museum called the Freedom Express. It's a 45-foot van that tells the story of First Amendment freedoms of speech, religion, petition, press and assembly through artifacts and award-winning, computer-based activities.

A Chicago-based foundation operates Freedom Express. The museum will be at Woodland Middle School from 8 to 9:45 a.m. today and Wednesday, as well as on Jan. 11 and 12. The vehicle will be parked in the school's south lot near Washington Street.

“This field trip is a culminating activity to the seventh-grade federal Constitution test,” said social studies teacher and coordinator Paul Durietz.
