Des Plaines aldermen faces challengers
A pair of incumbent Des Plaines aldermen will face challenges this April for their seats on the city council.
A slew of candidates filed at 8:30 a.m. Monday for four four-year terms up for election on April 5.
Onetime alderman Dick Sayad one of four mayoral candidates in 2009 is vying for his former seat against incumbent 4th Ward Alderwoman Jean Higgason, seeking her second consecutive term in office.
Newcomer Richard Hissong is challenging incumbent 6th Ward Alderman Mark Walsten, who also is running for his second consecutive term.
Ward 2 Alderman John Robinson is running for the post he was appointed to in 2009 to fill then-2nd Ward Alderman Marty Moylan's unexpired two-year term. Moylan vacated the seat after being elected mayor.
Newcomers Michael “Mike” Charewicz and Pat Mauro are running for the 8th Ward seat left open by the departure of Alderwoman Rosemary Argus, who's served the voter-imposed maximum of two consecutive four-year terms.
The candidate filing period continues through Monday, Dec. 20.
