Appointees Lang, Vogel seek election to Wheeling board seats

Incumbent Wheeling village trustees Ray Lang and David Vogel were the first to file candidate petitions Monday for the April 5 consolidated election.

Lang and Vogel were appointed to the village board by Mayor Judy Abruscato in May 2009 to fill the vacancy created after elected Trustee Stuart Shapiro stepped down before taking office, and Abruscato's own unexpired two-year term, respectively.

Since Lang was only appointed for two years until the next consolidated election, Shapiro's unexpired two-year term is up for election, as are three four-year term seats.

Both Lang and Vogel are vying for four-year term trustee posts.

This morning was the first opportunity for candidates to file nominating petitions to get their names on the ballot, but the filing period continues through Monday, Dec. 20.
