Glen Crest Math Counts Team posts 2 for 2 in 2010
2010 has been great for the Glen Crest Middle School Math Counts Team . The members have posted a 2 for 2 record.
In the first Montini Regional Math Competition for junior high students, Glen Crest‘s sixth-grade team, consisting of Luke Angelillo, Hadiya Afzal, Matt Sampey, Sean Roth, and Kajal Patel won third-place trophy in the competition.
In individual competitions, there were many winners from Glen Crest as well. Sixth-graders Luke Angelillo won second place and Hadiya Afzal, seventh place.
For the seventh-graders, Avinash Panjwani was awarded fourth place while Justin O'Keefe earned seventh place. Andrew Pen, a seventh-grader, tried the 8th grade competition and won third place among all the eighth-graders. Eighth-grader Dan Pechi was awarded fourth place in the eighth-grade competition.
On Dec 4, the second regional math competition was at St. Francis High School. Glen Crest's math team had a historic weekend by winning first place in this math competition against some of the best and so far unbeatable private and public schools.
The math team members, eighth-graders Dan Pechi and Neal Choksi, and seventh-graders Andrew Pen, Avinash Panjwani and Michael Strohl, were awarded first place in the divisional finals. The entire team, consisting of 10 members, took fifth place in the entire competition.
Glen Crest's Math Counts Team is extremely excited about the next two contests in 2011. The Math Counts competition is in February 2011 and IMSA competition is in March 2011. Math teacher Monica Shekar is the team sponsor.
