No injuries in 14-car pileup near Hampshire
Hampshire fire officials said no one was seriously injured in a 14-car pileup on Route 72 in an unincorporated area near Hampshire.
Hampshire Firefighter/Paramedic John DePauw said the accident occurred at 11:45 a.m. on Route 72 west of French Road, just outside the village.
Five people were taken with non-life-threatening injuries to both St. Joseph Hospital and Sherman Hospital in Elgin, DePauw said.
He said a total of 22 people were involved.
The Kane County Sheriff's office, assisted by the Hampshire police department, is handling the investigation.
“It could be that weather played a part in it,” DePauw said. “Visibility was very poor out there.”
Firefighters left the scene just before 4 p.m. Route 72 was closed while the road was cleared.
