Facts not being told about tax burden
Regarding Angela Campagna's Dec. 5 letter stating, “most people over 40 are being laid off and not being hired,” Come on. Why would the Daily Herald even publish a letter like that, which is a blatantly false statement? Can you now write in and say anything and get it in print?
Why are the facts not being told? The top 2 percent of earners actually do pay an inappropriate amount of the taxes but it is the other way around. In 2007 the top 1 percent of tax earners paid more taxes than the bottom 95 percent. I have an idea: Why don't we just take it all and then with the tax savings, everyone can go start their own company and pay themselves a nice fat salary for working 70 hours a week? It must be easy because all those “rich” guys are doing it.
In 2008, the top 50 percent of earners paid 97.3 percent of the taxes and the bottom 50 percent paid the remaining 2.7 percent. It is an absolute fact that you cannot tax the lowest-paid income workers more, but the ratio is already so out of proportion. It is going to change in 2012, all right.
