AAR, owner of former Blackwater aviation leaving NC

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — Wood Dale-based AAR Corp., owners of the former aviation division once run by security contractor Blackwater plans to move operations from North Carolina to Florida.

The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reported Saturday that AAR will make the move next spring, affecting about 225 jobs in northeastern North Carolina.

AAR spokesman Chris Mason said he didn't know how many of the company's employees in Moyock will make the move to Melbourne, Fla., southeast of Orlando.

AAR bought Aviation Worldwide Services from Xe (ZEE') Services in March. Xe Services is the new name of Blackwater, which provides guards and services to the U.S. government.

It became a well-known defense contractor but attracted sharp criticism over its role in several missions abroad.
