City Reminds Residents of Available Warming Centers

Bitterly Cold Temperatures, Wind Chills Forecast Throughout Beginning Part of Next Week

With expected near zero temperatures and below zero wind chills forecast throughout the beginning of next week, the City of Naperville would like to remind residents to take every precaution to ensure their health and safety. Residents who have at-risk friends, neighbors or relatives can help by checking on them periodically.

During normal business hours, Monday through Friday, residents can seek shelter from winter weather elements at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St. Other shelters are available at the following locations:

• County administrative buildings

• Libraries

• Park District facilities

• Senior centers

• Shopping malls

• Township offices

• Other public places

For relief from inclement conditions after hours and on weekends, residents are encouraged to visit any of the city's ten fire stations.

Residents should consider ways to avoid exposure to the elements, such as staying indoors, dressing in layers and using supplemental heating elements, such as electric heaters. However, it is important when using supplemental heat to follow manufacturer directions and take precautions regarding ventilation, as well as to keep the heat source away from combustibles.

The elderly, infants and young children, people with disabilities and persons taking medication for chronic health conditions tend to be most susceptible to these weather variations.

Anyone needing assistance should contact City Dispatch at (630) 420-6187. In case of an emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately.
