Coverage unfair to Maine South

We are the proud grandparents of a senior Maine South football player and take exception to your front page article in the Dec. 2 edition.

We were at the Loyola game and it was advertised that there would be a large student attendance, but we saw no increased security presence. The officiating at this game was the worst we had ever seen, but the boys played their hearts out and it was very exciting, especially the last two minutes.

When the clock showed: 00 and the game was over, the Maine South kids took the field to celebrate. Surprise, the officials decided that there was still 1.5 seconds left, so they had to clear the field and the players went back to “take a knee.”

The students again took the field. The Loyola players didn't participate in the team handshake and left. They crossed paths with Maine South parents who were exiting and the language they used to those parents was really inappropriate. Nothing is said about Loyola's sportsmanship?

In Champaign, alumni players from the last two championships were at the game, and right or wrong, they were on the field. Your article says this has been an issue for years. The inappropriate language by the coaches at the ceremony was wrong, but all the coaches should have been recognized.

We don't think this is front page news for the Herald, because during the season Maine South's stats are never mentioned because Park Ridge is not in your district. What is front page news is the article on Page 4 of the Geneva principal driving 103 mph. What kind of role model is he and what does that teach our children?
