New revenues never solve problems
Remember when there was no state income tax, only a sales tax? The Illinois legislature passed a sales tax and that was going to fix the economy.
Remember when the sales tax was much less than it is now? The Illinois legislature raised the sales tax and that was going to fix the economy.
Remember when there were no casinos? The Illinois legislature brought in casinos and that was going to bring more money into the schools and fix the economy.
We give politicians more money and they just find more ways to spend it and we're deeper in debt than ever. Now, state Rep. Terry Link wants to introduce more gambling. History teaches us that eventually the new casinos won't be enough.
Where are we headed?
