Lombard toy drive hopes to grow
The Lombard Fire Department is hoping to fill more stockings this year by getting more toys donated at its annual toy parade.
The department is asking organizations and families to “adopt a street” along the parade route, which runs from Main Street and St. Charles Road south to Glenbard East High School at Main Street and Wilson Avenue. Families can stand on the west side of Main Street at the intersection they want to “adopt” and hand their toy donations to firefighters.
The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and is scheduled to reach Glenbard East High School about 11:30 a.m. Tire trucks will then drive the donations to Yorktown Center, where the toy drive will run until 1 p.m. People who don't live on or near the parade route can bring donations to village hall, Schroeder's Ace Hardware, the Lombard Jewel, the Lombard Starbucks on North Avenue, both Lombard fire stations and all District 44 schools.
