Evans calls for Cook Board of Review candidates

Cook County Circuit Court Chief Judge Timothy Evans is putting out a call for candidates to replace Joseph Berrios on the Board of Review.

Berrios was sworn in as assessor Monday, vacating the office of District 2 commissioner on the Board of Review, a three-person panel that hears appeals on county assessments.

By law, Evans appoints a successor to finish Berrios' term. Applicants must, however, have lived in District 2 for the past two years, must be a Democrat to replace Berrios and may not hold any other lucrative public office or public employment.

The second district basically comprises the north side of Chicago, although it also extends southwest from the city center.

Evans said politics will not play a role in his decision. “I intend to appoint a commissioner who will be not only fair and impartial, but also willing to lower or raise property values as justice requires,” he said.

It's considered a part-time post, although it pays $100,000 a year.

An application form will be available starting Thursday at the cookcountycourt.org website. Applicants must also submit a cover letter to Evans, a resume with qualifications and three letters of reference.

Evans will accept applications, either by mail or dropped off in person, Dec. 13-27 at his Daley Center office: Room 2600, 50 W. Washington St., Chicago, Ill., 60602. Applications will also be available there for pickup.
