Librarian helps you decide which e-reader is best for you

The Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin, will offer some tips on holiday gifts. No registration is required. For details, call (847) 742-2411 or visit gailborden.info.

Some of the hottest holiday gifts for 2010 will be the Kindle, Nook, iPad and Reader. Learn all about digital e-readers and even try some out before you go holiday shopping for your favorite booklover during “e-reader Petting Zoo” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9. Tech-savvy librarian Margaret Peebles will compare the Apple iPad, Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook and Sony Reader and talk about the cost, size, battery life, storage, what works with the library downloadables and match the type of reader with e-reader. Several e-readers will be available for hands-on tryouts.

On Monday, Dec. 13, Nancy Pearl presents “Books That Make Great Gifts” at 1 p.m. This webinar will be presented by the librarian with her own action figure, Nancy Pearl. As the author of the “Book Lust: Recommended Reading collection,” Pearl knows just the right title guaranteed to make your friends, your family, and your patrons smile and start turning pages.
