Quigley has 17, DePaul beats Pitt 67-51

PITTSBURGH — Sam Quigley had 17 points and nine assists, and Keisha Hampton scored 15 points to help No. 24 DePaul overcome a slow start and beat Pittsburgh 67-51 on Tuesday night in the Big East opener for both teams.

Jania Sims scored 15 points and Asia Logan 12 for Pittsburgh (4-4, 0-1), which opened the game with a 7-0 spurt in 1:40. DePaul (9-1, 1-0) responded with a 21-4 run over the next 9½ minutes to take a 21-11 lead and went on to win its sixth straight.

Taylor Pikes had 10 rebounds as the Blue Demons outrebounded the Panthers 51-43.

Pittsburgh shot 25 percent (15 of 60) and was 4 of 27 (14.8 percent) from 3-point range. DePaul was 7 of 21 on 3s while shooting 39.1 percent (27 of 69).
