Berrios sworn in as Cook County assessor
Joseph Berrios, too, was sworn into office as Cook County assessor Monday.
Berrios won election to the office last month after serving 22 years as a commissioner at the Board of Review.
“I'm ready to do my part to make sure the assessor's office operates in the most cost-effective, efficient manner possible. We will be fiscally responsible, yet offer the highest level of customer service to property owners,” Berrios said in the ceremony at the assessor's office in the County Building in downtown Chicago. “Beginning today, I am dedicating all of my time to being the assessor of Cook County. Taxpayers deserve nothing less.”
During the campaign, Berrios said he would give up his sideline working as a Springfield lobbyist if elected assessor.
Berrios pledged to work to rescind the new requirement that seniors file annually for their property-tax exemption.
