Bad conduct in the stands is inexcusable
Our daughter is a freshman at Wheaton Warrenville South High School. The very first high school football game she attended was the Maine South vs. WWS game in September. We stood in utter disbelief as we listened to the Maine South crowd chant and jeer during the playing of the national anthem by WWS the national anthem! By the way, the game was broadcast on national television on ESPNU.
We hope that the IHSA properly sanctions Maine South for its actions at the WWS game and, apparently, throughout the playoffs. Behavior like this is becoming all too prevalent in our society, and it is time to take a stand.
We don't know if Maine South is on the WWS schedule for next year; if so, we think WWS should refuse to play them, even if it means forfeiting the game. It would be great if every team on their schedule boycotted them.
Lest someone think this is sour grapes, WWS beat these so-called “8A champs” 44-7 back in September. Maine South is neither champions on the field or off it.
