Bedroom fire damages Elk Grove Village house
A bedroom fire inside an Elk Grove Village house just before noon today caused extensive damage and left the ranch-style residence uninhabitable, according to fire officials.
A neighbor across the street from the home on the 1100 block of Leicester Road called 911 after spotting flames flaring out of a front bedroom window at about 11:50 a.m. said Elk Grove Fire Department acting Battalion Chief Michael Sharp.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but no one was home when the fire broke out in a bedroom that was being used as an office, Sharp said.
Fire investigators estimated damages at approximately $60,000 after the fire badly damaged the bedroom and a second room that received carry-over damage, Sharp said. The rest of the home was damaged by smoke, he said.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in less than 10 minutes, but the damage left the home uninhabitable, Sharp said.
The Elk Grove Village Fire Department was assisted by the Itasca Fire Department.
