Patted down or blown up?
Modesty is a virtue, but false modesty can be a danger. It keeps people from getting the medical exams that could save their lives, and now it is playing into the hands of terrorists.
As a 78-year-old grandma with three joint replacements, I get patted down every time I fly because my fake hips and knee set off the metal detectors. I have found the TSA ladies always respectful, even apologetic. Never once have I felt embarrassed or humiliated.
If I have to undergo a more “invasive” search because I can't raise my arms for the scan, I will remember that the TSA is not out to insult me but to keep me safe.
Air travelers, before you decide to give the TSA agents a hard time, ask yourself this question: Which would you rather be, patted down or blown up?
