Don't be lulled into false security

I'd like to thank the Daily Herald for sharing The Washington Post story (Nov. 26) regarding the study on how cop killers got their guns, and found it informative. It is a sad and upsetting topic, one most prefer not to read or think about, but a reality nonetheless.

My comment is this: The quality of life we enjoy in DuPage County can be directly attributed to the professional men and women who work in our criminal justice system.

It's not the elected officials, they come and go. So as our elected leaders go about their business contemplating cuts, layoffs, pension changes, etc., please don't let DuPage's wonderful quality of life allow you to be lulled into false sense of security.

And please never forget the importance of, and sacrifices being made by, the men and women on the front lines, 24/7, 365.

Police are like insurance policies; when you get in a crash, do you want the best coverage or some fly-by-night company helping?

And when you need the police, do you want dedicated, professional police officers or response from officers who are anything short of that? Police aren't compensated for what they do, they are compensated for what they might have to do paying the ultimate sacrifice that looms over their head each and every day they go to work.
