Palatine teens get probation for car burglaries
A pair of Palatine 18-year-olds arrested in August for entering unlocked vehicles and taking items received two years probation last month in exchange for pleading guilty to burglary, a class 2 felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
Dylan Zimmer, of the 700 block of Stuart Lane, and Matthew Boczarski, of the 800 block of Dorset Ave., admitted to Palatine detectives that they took items such as GPS units, laptops and cash from various unlocked vehicles in Palatine.
A homeowner called Palatine police in the early morning hours of Aug. 29 to report unknown subjects in a vehicle. By the time authorities arrived, the subjects had fled, police said. Officers searched the area and discovered the teens whose description matched the one given by the homeowner in another vehicle where police also recovered possessions from other area burglaries, police said.
A Cook County judge ordered both teens to pay $650 in fines. In addition, the judge ordered Boczarski to perform community service.
