Bartlett teen wanted on sex charge
A 19-year-old from Bartlett is expected to surrender to authorities Thursday after being charged with felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse for a case involving a 14-year-old from South Elgin, authorities said.
South Elgin Police Sgt. Mike Doty said authorities have talked with the attorney for Michael J. Granata, of the 200 block of Faircroft Road.
“He's turning himself in tomorrow,” Doty said Wednesday.
The felony charge against Granata carries a sentence of two to five years in prison if convicted, but probation also is an option.
Doty said the girl's mother reported the matter to police. It took place between June 10 and July 4 at the girl's home in South Elgin, Doty said, and the girl was not injured.
“There was no force involved,” Doty said. “The age difference is why it's charged.”
A phone message left at Granata's home was not immediately returned.
Granata does not have any previous criminal charges against him in Kane County.
