Skinny: The Flames open Horizon League play with a tough assignment and a noble cause. UIC honors the late Walter Payton while raising money for the Liver Center that bears his name: $4 from every ticket (and all $5 from the commemorative headbands sold separately) will go to the Center. Meanwhile, the Flames face one of their toughest offenses to date. Valpo boasts defending Horizon League scoring champ Brandon Wood, but he has turned into more of a facilitator (12.5 ppg, 5.2 apg, 4.5 rpg) as the Crusaders boast four double-figure scorers. They're shooting 48 percent from the floor. UIC isn't nearly as balanced. Robo Kreps, Paul Carter and Zavion Neely are scoring 65 percent of the points and taking 61 percent of the shots, but they're also the team's top three assist men.
