Two in custody after St. Charles armed home invasion

Two men are in custody after breaking into a St. Charles home Tuesday morning and injuring two residents during an attempted armed robbery, police said.

Officers responded to the residence on the 1500 block of Adams Avenue at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and surrounded the house, said St. Charles Police Department spokesman Paul McCurtain.

Two male suspects ran north through a field as the home was surrounded but could not escape pursuing officers.

Both men were in custody at 10:36, but police have not filed formal charges as the investigation continues, McCurtain said.

Police found one weapon that a suspect ditched outside the home, but the second weapon had not been found as of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Both victims were taken to an area hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, McCurtain said.

The St. Charles Fire Department dive team was on the scene this afternoon searching a creek that runs behind the house for the second weapon, police said.
