Shop with a Cop answers the call to help

This year, the Grayslake-Hainesville Police Department is joining hands with the Grayslake Kiwanis Club and with the help from the community they plan to use the police department's Shop with a Cop to answer the call to help make this a joyful holiday season for a number of local families experiencing hardships during these tough economic times.

Created to help families in need provide a Christmas celebration for their children, the Shop with a Cop program offers a unique opportunity for children to have a joyous and rewarding experience shopping for presents for themselves and other family members.

On Dec. 3 and 19, each Shop with a Cop child will spend time with an individual Grayslake-Hainesville police officer, as they are driven to a local Target store by their officer whom will accompanying the child as they pick out and purchase presents using a $100 gift allowance.

In addition, the positive interaction between Shop with a Cop children and law enforcement officers offers a chance to build up the trust while breaking down the barriers that sometime exists between children and police.

After the shopping is done all the presents will be brought to the Grayslake village hall on Dec. 19 where at least a dozen of Shop with a Cop helpers consisting of Strang Funeral Chapel and Crematorium staff, family and friends will gift wrap the presents so they can be delivered by Grayslake-Hainesville police officers and Kiwanis Club members to each Shop with a Cop family before Christmas day.

A full sponsorship is $100 for a child. However, in an effort to help as many local families as possible, the Grayslake-Hainesville Police Department and Kiwanis Club will be grateful for donations in any amount.

Please make your tax deductible donation payable to the Grayslake Kiwanis with Shop with a Copy noted on the check and drop off or mail to the Grayslake-Hainesville Police Department, 10 S. Seymour, Grayslake, IL 60030.
