Free senior rides unfairly portrayed
I read with great interest the Nov. 27 “Six counties in 60 seconds” section regarding, “Free rides being misused?” The article suggests that fraud was uncovered regarding the program providing free rides to Illinois senior citizens.
I am a retired Illinois citizen and a free ride user, and I resent the subtle suggestion that the retired citizens of Illinois are associated with this alleged fraud. The article explained that many free passes are being used after the registration card holder had died, according to a report from WFLD-TV.
The free ride pass has the picture of the person issued, too, and an expiration date. This suggest a gross administration issue and nothing else. Of all the government administrative problems facing the citizens of Illinois, this has to rank very low.
In addition, you, too, will eventually be a senior citizen, and living on a fixed income and I truly hope that this free ride will be available for you.
