Arlington library to host drive for books, food and pet items
In response to the challenging economy, Arlington Heights Memorial Library is again sponsoring a “Read & Feed” food drive at the library and on the bookmobile until Dec. 1.
The “Read & Feed” drive will collect food pantry items for the Wheeling Township food pantry, and pet care and food items for The Buddy Foundation to care for stray, abused and abandoned animals.
Food donations can include unopened and unexpired cans or boxes of fruits and vegetables, rice, pasta, beans, cereal, soups, stews, pancake mix, peanut butter, jelly, paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, household cleaning products, and diapers sizes 4, 5 and 6.
Pet items to donate include: canned or dry dog or cat food; dog or cat treats; and scoopable cat litter.
The library also is collecting new children's books in English and Spanish from infant through teenage titles. The books will be donated in early December to Wheeling Township for inclusion in their “Adopt a Family Holiday Basket.”
