Park district concert band performing in Des Plaines
The Des Plaines Park District Community Concert Band, conducted by Lawrence J. Carle, will present its Winter Concert, A Christmas Festival, 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, in the Prairie Lakes Theater, 515 East Thacker St., Des Plaines.
The program opens with Fanfare Prelude on Joy to the World written by Jim Curnow. The first act includes Christmas Day by Gustav Holst, the Christmas Song by Mel Torme, and Russian Christmas Music by Alfred Reed, as well as L'Arlesienne, Suite No. 2: Farandole by Georges Bizet.
The second act opens with Christmas Declaration arranged by Robert W. Smith, and follows with Troika from Lieutenant Kije by Sergei Prokofiev, Carol of the Bells, arranged by James Christensen and conducted by Associate Conductor, David A. Sterling, In the Bleak Midwinter by Gustav Holst, An English Christmas by Clare Grundman, also conducted by Sterling, and concludes with Home for Christmas arranged by John Higgins, and A Christmas Festival by Leroy Anderson.
