Elk Grove police investigating fatal crash

Elk Grove Village police say a two-vehicle crash that killed a Chicago man Saturday is under investigation.

On Saturday about 12:10 p.m., police responded to a report of a crash involving injuries at Elmhurst Road and Greenleaf Avenue.

Zeferino Carnargo was pronounced dead at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, where he had been taken by the Elk Grove Village Fire Department.

Police said two vehicles were involved in the crash: one a 2001 Volvo truck driven by a Phoenix man and the other the 1999 Plymouth minivan driven by Carnargo.

According to reports, the Volvo had been traveling south on Elmhurst Road through the intersection of Greenleaf when it struck the Plymouth, which was headed east on Greenleaf and making a left turn onto northbound Elmhurst Road.

The driver of the Volvo was not injured.
