Try opting for healthier snacks during the holidays

We all know how tough it is to get through the holidays without gaining weight.

Constant bombardment from sugary snacks and beverages takes its toll.

Learn how to win this tricky battle by eating foods that keep you building muscle and burning fat. The following snacks taste great and help put an end to your hunger.

Eggs: Eggs are an excellent source of protein and fat. The protein quality in an egg is some of the best you can eat. Eggs do contain cholesterol, but in a natural form that the body needs and utilizes. Adding a few eggs to your weekly diet will have a positive impact on weight control. Snacking on an egg and a piece of fruit gives you a great balance of protein, fat and carbohydrates.

Almonds: If you ever need a quick snack, almonds are the way to go. Try buying raw almonds and sprinkling them with a pinch or two of natural sea salt for added flavor and trace minerals. Almonds are a caloric-dense food so be careful not to overeat. One ounce, or a small handful, is a typical serving size.

Yogurt: Greek style or plain full-fat. It's true that these yogurts have more fat than the low-fat types, but they contain less sugar. The added fat will help you stay more satisfied, and along with the lower sugar content, will help control your blood sugar and weight. If you crave more sweetness, mix in a few fresh blueberries or strawberries.

Turkey and other organic meats: Sliced turkey, chicken, roast beef or ham make great snacks any time of the day. Stick to 3 to 4 ounces and add a few whole grain crackers for a crunchy snack that packs quality protein. Remember, variety is key, so if you eat a lot of turkey, switch it up and try roast beef or ham from time to time.

Protein powder: This may be one of the easiest and quickest ways to get a quality protein snack if you don't have time to grab food. Food is always recommended before supplements, but sometimes you just need a quick and easy snack. Protein powders come in many flavors, but stick with one that has all natural ingredients. A typical serving gives you around 20 grams of muscle-building protein.

Try the following shake for a quick snack that doesn't skimp on taste.
